OVERVIEW

This unique private tour not only covers the major sights of ancient Buda and modern Pest, but will provide you with first-hand experience of why locals love their city so much.
By spending a leisurely day with us you will experience and enjoy Budapest’s city life with insight that no guidebook can provide. During this 8-hour tour, participants will enjoy meeting locals by using Budapest’s excellent public-transport system, including the first underground in continental Europe and the city’s charming Danube ferryboats. Our four stops for coffee and meals at wonderful terraces and cafés throughout the day will give you an opportunity to discuss what you have seen and ask any questions about Hungary and its people.

This unique private tour goes far beyond ordinary sightseeing. While enjoying Budapest’s iconic buildings and landmarks, you’ll also be introduced to beautiful sights found off the beaten path and learn about little secrets of both (ancient) Buda and (modern) Pest. Spending these hours with us will allow you to experience Budapest’s true spirit and see the city through the eyes of locals. This tour can be customized to include specific landmarks of your choosing, and includes tips for current events and specific recommendations based on your interests.

After meeting at your hotel, your Fungarian guide will take you to a panoramic viewpoint of the city to enjoy the breathtaking sight of Buda and Pest from above. In addition to the view, this point also serves to help with your future orientation and will make navigating Budapest much easier throughout your entire visit. The first refreshment stop will be at a “cukrászda” (confectioner’s) where you can taste delicious Hungarian “krémes” (baked custard) accompanied by an “eszpresszó”, while we provide an overview of how our turbulent history and ancient language affected the modern-day Hungarian mindset.
In the next phase of the tour we acquaint you with Budapest’s most beautiful examples of late-19th-century architecture, including Hungarian Art Nouveau. After absorbing so much culture and so many stunning city sights, we’ll go to a classic local restaurant to enjoy an authentic Hungarian lunch, including some of the city’s best “gulyás” (goulash soup) – the national dish, made with regional ingredients and a long history – and “palacsinta” desserts. We’ll take this opportunity to share delicious Hungarian recipes with you, and explain why cuisine is one of the primary conversation topics among Hungarians. After lunch we’ll explore the unique Jewish Quarter, and finish our tour at a world-famous ruin pub, a hangout among locals.

Guest review

”When walking around Budapest, you are ceaselessly bombarded with signs of all kinds – billboards, posters and, obviously, street signs. As Hungarian is like few other languages, you have absolutely no clue to their meaning. After taking the intro lesson with Fungarian, I still have no clue to their meaning but I now know how to pronounce the street names and every sign I meet now becomes a fun challenge. I walk all over the city and I don’t allow myself to walk further until I’ve said the street name out loud. It may sound nerdy but it actually makes me feel a closer bond to this magnificent city. When arriving in Budapest, make sure to take this lesson! Your stay will be so much more fun and you will also get valuable insights into what to do here"
