OVERVIEW

Take perfect selfie snapshots amid Budapest’s best panoramic viewpoints and conversation-starting statues with Fungarian’s original Selfie Tour.
While learning the stories of poets, artists, heroes and rebels of Hungary’s past and present, you can take selfies with landmarks and sculptures to set up your INSTAGRAM album or other social-media platforms as the best Budapest souvenir. Follow in the footsteps of “The IT Crowd” star Richard Ayoade, who took this tour in the Travel Man” TV series Budapest episode, originally aired on Britain’s Channel 4 and enjoy a Fungarian language class and a Selfie Tour with Miklos Molnar, founder of Fungarian.

Beautiful Budapest is a city of statues that remind us of our past, and breathtaking panoramic sights that we delight in every day.

During Fungarian’s unique “Selfie Tour”, forget about dry guidebook descriptions of Hungarian history or long-winded stories about Budapest buildings – this excursion takes you directly to the best spots for taking perfectly composed selfies by lovely landmarks and beside stunning statues. Our turbulent past is crammed with great talents in arts and sciences, but also rebels and malcontents, be they free-spirited poets, unconventional artists, dissident statesmen, or fierce freedom fighters. We call the latter our national heroes. During our tour, you will hear their stories while posing alongside them.
We will ramble through the city on a winding journey to see intriguing landmarks, little-known vistas, and panoramic viewpoints in search of unconventional statues, artworks, and lookout points.

The tour is thematic: Art Nouveau and Art Deco buildings, remnants of the short-lived Communist past, great but lesser-known figures of Hungarian history – like the unique statue of Anonymous, the chronicler of Hungarian history, or General Hadik, a hussar commander in Maria Theresa’s time, infamous for taking Berlin hostage and making Berliners pay an enormous ransom or the Detective Columbo statue near Margaret Bridge. We will also visit the statues of some of our great poets that we are so proud of and read their best poetry. Additionally, we will have two drink stops at iconic but hidden local places.

The tour has a set route, but we are happy to divert from it if you have special interests. We hope you will end up with a minimum of 20 wonderful selfies rich in historical and literary content, or showing you in the centre of amazing city sights.

Highlights:

Find an ideal spot on Margaret Bridge for a unique panorama

Compare your hand to Franz Liszt’s long “piano fingers”

Become part of one of the eye-catching murals in hip District 7

Play marbles with the Paul Street boys by a statue based on the novel

Touch the shiny balls of the Hadik equestrian statue to bring you luck

Mix with a Bohemian crowd in one of Budapest’s iconic “ruin pubs”

Guest review

”When walking around Budapest, you are ceaselessly bombarded with signs of all kinds – billboards, posters and, obviously, street signs. As Hungarian is like few other languages, you have absolutely no clue to their meaning. After taking the intro lesson with Fungarian, I still have no clue to their meaning but I now know how to pronounce the street names and every sign I meet now becomes a fun challenge. I walk all over the city and I don’t allow myself to walk further until I’ve said the street name out loud. It may sound nerdy but it actually makes me feel a closer bond to this magnificent city. When arriving in Budapest, make sure to take this lesson! Your stay will be so much more fun and you will also get valuable insights into what to do here"
