OVERVIEW
Fungarian offers this short interactive tour to people with Hungarian ancestors as part of our Discover Your Hungarian Roots in Budapest Series.
Most Budapest visitors of Hungarian origin are keen to know where their ancestors came from, why they chose to emigrate, what and whom they left behind, and what historical baggage they took with them into an unknown world.
Learn all of this and more during this tour of monumental Budapest sights with an expert guide who will introduce you to Hungarian history, a history that shaped the characters and the mindsets of Hungarians spanning generations around the world.

This tour presents highlights of Budapest’s iconic Heroes’ Square and City Park, where Hungary’s 1896 Millennial Exhibition took place. While introducing you to myriad statues and memorials, we will explain the major episodes of Hungarian history with a focus on social conditions and lifestyle in the heyday of Budapest during the final decade of the 19th century. You’ll see the statue of Anonymous, a 12th century chronicler who created the myths of the mysterious origin of the Hungarian tribes, which then later reinforced by 19th century Romanticism. To this day these myths shape Hungarian historical consciousness, and without being aware of them you cannot understand the Hungarian national psyche.
The tour includes a long coffee break that features a presentation of Fungarian’s informative album, HUNGARIAN HISTORY IN PICTURES. We will focus on a period of history that you are most interested in – such as the era when your Hungarian ancestors chose to leave their native country behind – and we will provide expert answers to all questions that you may have.
